Working with the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS), our Club ensures that hundreds of young children (3-5 years old) in the Somerville Head Start program receives a great gift for the holidays.
In 2023, our club purchased, wrapped, and delivered quality fun presents for over 175 children the week before Christmas.
This program has changed over time from in person pizza dinner with Santa to now delivering all the presents to the schools.
Nearly 100% of our members buy the presents themselves to donate or ask another member to help them with the shopping. We encourage friends, neighbors, and family to join in the giving spirit.
We have a core committee to guide the effort, and all members are invited to the wrapping party and the big delivery day!
CAAS has been the federally designated anti-poverty agency serving Somerville, Massachusetts since 1981. CAAS’s mission is to help local families and individuals achieve financial security while working to eliminate the root causes of economic injustice. Come by our both to learn about the Kiwanis Club of Somerville or to support our work in the community. Following today's meeting, the Somerville Kiwanis Scholarship Foundation held it's annual meeting. The Somerville Kiwanis Club Luncheon meeting today was a very special event. Three new members were inducted into the club by Past President/Distinguished Secretary Bob Nissenbaum. Thomas Ferte, Stephanie Deering and Christopher Vining formerly became members today after acknowledging their commitment to the goals and objectives of Kiwanis. Thomas Ferte, who recently opened a French Bakery at 164 Broadway, was today's luncheon speaker.
We always welcome members of the community who want to help us serving the community. There's lots of work to do. Special thanks to Past President Haley Adams. President-elect Tom Austin and Member Micah Gorin for sponsoring these great new members. ... See MoreSee Less
