Working with the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS), our Club ensures that hundreds of young children (3-5 years old) in the Somerville Head Start program receives a great gift for the holidays.
In 2023, our club purchased, wrapped, and delivered quality fun presents for over 175 children the week before Christmas.
This program has changed over time from in person pizza dinner with Santa to now delivering all the presents to the schools.
Nearly 100% of our members buy the presents themselves to donate or ask another member to help them with the shopping. We encourage friends, neighbors, and family to join in the giving spirit.
We have a core committee to guide the effort, and all members are invited to the wrapping party and the big delivery day!
CAAS has been the federally designated anti-poverty agency serving Somerville, Massachusetts since 1981. CAAS’s mission is to help local families and individuals achieve financial security while working to eliminate the root causes of economic injustice. Please read about and support their important mission. https://caasomerville.org

Thomas Ferte, Stephanie Deering and Christopher Vining formerly became members today after acknowledging their commitment to the goals and objectives of Kiwanis. Thomas Ferte, who recently opened a French Bakery at 164 Broadway, was today's luncheon speaker.

On Thursday, April 11th, we had another well-attended meeting. Renee Scott, the co-founder of Green and Open Spaces in Somerville was the guest speaker. Green and Open Spaces increase green spaces while focusing on ecological restoration and climate change resiliency. One of the many ways they increase green space is by de-paving. Members at the meeting learned all about how they de-pave in Somerville.
Also at today's meeting, Past President - distinguished Secretary Bob Nissenbaum, won the Aces Gone Wild fundraiser earning a chance to draw the Ace of Spades and win half of the ever-growing pot of cash. PP Bob, in a generous gesture, allowed our server, Jan, to have the chance to win. Jan did in fact pull the Ace of Spades and was the winner of the cash. ... See MoreSee Less
